Why Do We Love To Live In Edgebrook? The Trib Will Sum It Up For You.
Of course we’ve all heard about or maybe even encountered the first-time visitor to Edgebrook who is under the false impression that we’re suburbanites. Sauganash residents may just be lucky enough to get a pass for being Chicagoans, but once the Edens Expressway is crossed to the west … yep, it’s gotta be the suburbs.
Lucky us, I say. We don’t mind being mistaken for suburbanites, because we get the best of both worlds: We’re Chicagoans, and we live in the suburbs. We have everything that we need in or pretty darn close to our neighborhood: Edgebrook. Except for overwhelmingly decent weather, but that’s a different story altogether.
So, in case you missed it, on Friday, the Chicago Tribune published an article about our tiny enclave of Edgebrook / Wildwood, where they finally set the record straight about us being part of Chicago. Enjoy.

Would be interested to hear if real estate agents’ phones were ringing a bit more this weekend and early this week based on the idyllic images thats this article conjures up. The housing prices seem to be a little off — 400K to over a million? People can certainly get into North Edgebrook or into a smaller house on Caldwell, Devon or Central for less than that.
Can’t say that I’m misled by the idyllic images the article portrays, but I suspect that not many future Edgebrook residents are swayed by this Trib piece. Remember: pictures and video are worth a thousand words, and an extended weekend trip through the neighborhood is even better, to be able to form an opinion. When the Trib ran a piece on Sauganash a few weeks ago, my phone didn’t ring off the hook abnormaly.
On the housing prices, I partially agree with you JB. We’ve got 16 homes in Edgebrook for $400K and under right now, five of which are under contract. And that doesn’t even include the 8 or so condos that are on the market for sale. At the top end, we’re looking at two homes in Edgebrook with a sticker price of over $1MM.
Didn’t mean to say the article was misleading … just very complimentary. … Perhaps that and the somewhat brightening housing statistics will cause some people to take that weekend ride through Edgebrook to get a first-hand look at the neighborhood.
Yes, I’m rather sure that seekers of suburbia in the city will find our neck of the woods quite attractive.
Speaking of housing statistics,…, I’m working on my next post about second quarter 2009 stats in zip code 60646. Should be published here by the end of this week. That is if I can find the time to wrest myself away from the beauty of Edgebrook and get myself situated behind a computer.
